Ready To Cast Class

Do you have finished wax projects you need to cast? This is the class for you! This is guided studio time for casting your prepared wax carvings.

Description

Prerequisite: **You must have completed a casting class prior to taking this and have your wax models carved, finished, and ready to cast before coming to the class

Are you ready to see your wax carvings come to life? In our studio, you will have all the materials and equipment available to sprue and cast your waxes using professional equipment. You will also have some time to troubleshoot your projects and get guidance from an experienced instructor. Ready to Cast is perfect for those who have completed a previous casting class and have their wax models carved and ready to cast. Previous wax experience will be helpful for spruing your models.

Day 1: Final touches put on wax models, then weigh, sprue, and invest.

The flasks go into the kiln to burn out overnight

Day 2: Cast, then spend the remaining time cleaning up and polishing your metal pieces

You need to know how to cast your waxes successfully, including:

  • Spruing techniques
  • Safety and use of casting equipment

This is a chance to see your hard work pay off and create beautiful, lasting pieces!

Materials: Bring in your pre-carved wax models, ready to sprue. Also, please note that there will be a limit of one to two flasks per student.  $10 per flask will be charged at the end of class.

**Casting grain is NOT included in tuition. However, students may bring and use sterling silver scrap with NO SOLDER if preferred. We have sterling silver and bronze casting grain available for purchase on the day of class.

Here are some additional details:

  • Please note that there are no demonstrations, and your pieces should be ready to go!
  • Ready to Cast is designed for wax carvings only. If you have 3D printed pieces or organic material you would like to cast (succulents, flowers, twigs), you must clear it with the staff ahead of time.
